What is popular culture, and what does it mean to you?
Pop culture is a collective view of different ideas toward images, music, movies, art, food and more. Pop culture is much more than that but then I would take up the entire space on the blog to write that.
To me pop culture is very important, it represents to me mostly the enjoyable things in life. I don't necessarily go for what is popular but just because the word "popular" is in the name that doesn't mean it is only referencing just what is popular. There are different segments of pop culture such as folk culture which would be more up my alley. But I do divulge in the mainstream as well.
Why is an understanding of popular culture relevant to you in a business environment and in your present and future career?
Pop culture is relevant everywhere. In the business environment it is a good way to reach common ground with co-workers. You can talk about last nights episode of Dancing with the Stars or make a co-worker laugh by quoting a funny line from a ridiculous comedy film. Also being updated on pop culture is relevant in your future career because you just never know when you'll be in an interview and they're making small talk about something someone said on the news and you could keep up in that conversation as well.
For my example of a pop culture artifact I chose this video clip of Justin Bieber getting hit with a water bottle at a concert. I chose this because everyone seems to have the "Bieber Fever" right now and I thought this was a neat reaction he gave to the abuse.
